This year marks the 240th anniversary of the national hero LIN Zexu’s birth. From April 12th to 13th and 15th to 20th, LIN Zexu, a co-production of the NCPA and Guangzhou Dramatic Arts Centre, has its eighth round's premiere at the NCPA Theatre, kicking off the NCPA International Theatre Festival 2025.
Since its premiere in 2019, the drama commission LIN Zexu has been staged for more than 50 times in seven rounds - it has toured three provinces and five cities with all seats occupied each time.
This round features an outstanding lead cast, while artists from the NCPA Drama Ensemble and Guangzhou Dramatic Arts Centre also perform in the drama. The creative team provides a solid guarantee for the performance. Once again PU Cunxin portrays the national hero LIN Zexu, interpretating his perseverance, wisdom and loyalty to the nation. XU Fan, who plays LIN Zexu’s wife, ZHENG Shuqing, looks really gentle, virtuous and highly principled on stage. Other artists, including HONG Tao, GUO Da and GUAN Dongtian, breathe vivid life into the characters.
On April 19th, the NCPA’s blockbuster programme, “Live Simulcast”, will be put on with the brilliant performance broadcast live at more than theatres and over 120 cinemas across various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government in China. For the audience who may fail to be present at the NCPA in person, they can enjoy this masterpiece in the cities where they live, with famous hostess, ZHOU Tao, holding pre-concert talks to show what is going on and off the stage.
