Curtain raised, Thornfield Manor appeared slowly. As there came the theme music, this solemn and classical English castle, filled with damp and cool air of that time, instantly took the audience back to the quaint and elegant Britain of the 19th century.

Dressed in a simple grey linen skirt, ZHU Jie got trapped in the inner world of Jane Eyre, who can suffer in silence but never gives in. Her petite frame was full of energy, which might burst out at any time.

PU Cunxin, who plays Rochester, appeared as a weather-beaten yet dashing manor owner. PU gave a spontaneous and delicate portrayal of Rochester, who is kind-hearted and disconsolate about the past.

The dramatic plot is breathtaking, when Jane Eyre and Rochester meet and get familiar with each other. Later they fall in love and then part.

The use of stage montage makes the drama more impressive. What happens in Jane Eyre’s childhood flashes back one after another, fully revealing the protagonist’s inner feelings and the reason why she makes every choice.
