NCPA Opera Le Nozze di Figaro unveils again

On the night of July 15th, the NCPA Theatre was packed to capacity as Mozart’s operatic masterpiece Le Nozze di Figaro opened its sixth round of performances to great anticipation.

As the China NCPA Orchestra struck up the familiar overture, the entire theatre was instantly immersed in the joyful atmosphere of Mozart’s musical world. LÜ Jia, NCPA's Artistic Director of Music and conductor for the evening, guided the orchestra with meticulous precision and sensitivity, bringing out the rich musical layers and dramatic tension of the work.

Austrian baritone Markus Paul Werba (right) earned thunderous applause as Figaro, portraying the clever and courageous character with a rich, rounded timbre and superb acting skills.

Italian soprano Benedetta Torre (right), in the role of Susanna, delivered a sparkling interpretation of the quick-witted maid, combining a clear, agile voice with a playful and charming stage presence.

Alessandro Luongo brought a blend of authority and irony to his portrayal of Il Conte d’Almaviva, while Mariya Mudryak’s performance as La Contessa d’Almaviva was marked by heartbreaking sorrow and nobility, especially in her moving rendition of “Porgi amor”.

The role of Cherubino, the spirited young page traditionally sung by a soprano, was performed by Miriam Albano (left) with youthful exuberance.

NCPA Resident Singers, including GUAN Zhijing, KOU Jing, WANG Jing, CHENG Wenhui, DU Ang and LIANG Yufeng also delivered outstanding performance. The China NCPA Chorus added vibrant colour to the music.

This round will continue through July 20th. Tomorrow night’s performance will feature ZHANG Xiaomeng, ZHANG Meigui, ZHANG Yang, ZHOU Xiaolin and ZHANG Yajie, who will join forces with ZHAO Ming, LIU Siman, YUE Tian and other singers to interpret the “True Meaning of Love” in Mozart’s music.
