Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra was founded on December 25, 2007, with Deng Jingshan as the President, Yang Yang as the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Lin Shangzhuan as the Vice President, and Lin Daye as the Resident Conductor. Besides, in the Orchestra, Ning Feng, the famed violinist, is the Artist in Residence, Xue Biao is the Concertmaster, and Xu Weiling is the Guest Concertmaster. There are totally 76 players, all of whom graduated from distinguished higher music institutions in China and abroad. One third of the players hold Master's Degrees and Doctor's Degrees. Furthermore, there are several foreign performers joined in Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra. On all accounts, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra players are well-trained with gifted performing skills which have been approved of awards from international contests.
Despite of short history since its foundation, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra had much outstanding and approved achievement. With instructions from Yang Yang, the Artistic Director, the Orchestra had splendid cooperative performances with Violinist Lv Siqing, Ning Feng, Qian Zhou, Li Chuanyun, Horn Master Han Xianguang, Trumpet Master Ji Ruikai, etc, as well as admired concerts with folk music performers and artists Min Huifen, Zhang Qiang, Yuan Li, Tan Wei, and illustrious and noted singers such as Liao Changyong, Dai Yuqiang, Zhang Ye, Zhang Jianyi, Yao Hong, Zhang Liping, Wu Bixia, Sun Xiuwei, Yang Jie, Ding Yi, Yuan Chenye. At one time, lots of international musicians of great distinction, including American conductor and violinist Joseph Silverstein, Chinese composer and conductor He Zhanhao, had a chance to conduct Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra concerts, and expressed high evaluation and appraise. Since its foundation, the Orchestra had successfully held high standard concerts as Beethoven Concerts Series, Mozart Concert, Cathay Style Concerts Series, Film Music Concert, and Fifty-Year Anniversary of Butterfly Lovers Composing Concert time after time. In addition, the Orchestra was responsible for accompaniment at the Fifth China Shanghai International Youth Piano Contest. Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra would have more cooperation with international famed artists as German Conductor Klaus Weise, famed conductor Chen Xieyang, American Piano Maestro Gary Graffman, Korean Piano Master Kun-Woo Paik, Cellist Wang Jian, Pianist Chen Sa, Violinist Xie Nan, Cellist Qin Liwei, Pianist Song Siheng, and so on. Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra is approaching the goal of professional orchestra of international standards, contributing to symphony in Hangzhou and China.
President: Deng Jingshan Deng Jingshan is President and Sectary of Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Director of China Performing Industry Association, Senior Political and Ideological Engineer, and National Second Grade Player. He was rewarded as Advanced Worker of national culture industry, Excellent Troupe Administrator of Zhejiang Province, representative of the 6th Congress of CPC of Hangzhou and Excellent Party Member of Hangzhou, etc.
During his session of Director and Sectary of Hangzhou Song and Dance Theatre, Deng Jingshan led the theatre to various international professional competitions for many times and received international golden prize for 16 times. He organized and planned White Snake and Xuxian, The Girl Drum, Jade Bird, Ode to Peace and other dancing plays and received New Play Award of the 9th and 11th Wenhua Award, Excellent Exported Cultural Product and Service Award of Ministry of Culture and other awards. These plays followed President of PRC to visit Kyrgyzstan to attend the ceremony performance of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and were honored and awarded by Ministry of Culture.

Conductor: Yang Yang Yang Yang, born into a musical family, learned piano when was a child and was admitted to the Attached Primary School of Central Conservatory of Music at 12, became one of the students of Professor Li Qifang. Later, he leaned conducting respectively from Professor Xuxin and Wu Lingfen, and then was admitted to the Conducting Department of China Central Conservatory of Music, being one of the students of Professor Yu Feng.
As one of the most active Chinese conductors, Yang Yang has maintained close partnership with all domestically mainstream orchestras and opera houses. Meanwhile, he has successfully left tracks at a host of foreign orchestras such as Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra and National Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra, Cannes Symphony Orchestra and Bordeaux Symphony Orchestra, Greek Symphony Orchestra, Athenian Chamber Orchestra and Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra. His collaborations with such world famous musicians include Augustin Dumay, Sabine Meyer, Lenard Karpison, Barry Douglas, Alban Gerhard, Lang Lang, Bai Jianyu, Cho-Liang Lin, etc.
Yang Yang successfully started his career life as a conductor at the First Beijing International Music Festival and conducted operas and concerts for continually eight year from then on. He acted as an assistant conductor at China Philharmonic Orchestra from 2000 to 2005, went to Korea to participate the Master Class presided over by Myung-Whun Chung, a conducting master, in 2006 and involved in and presided over to establish the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra. Yang Yang is Assistant Artistic Director of China Philharmonic Orchestra and Chief Conductor of Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra.
In Nov. 2006, Yang Yang won the First Place with his outstanding performance and undisputable advantages in Dimitri Mitropoulos International Conducting Match which is held in Greek, becoming the first Chinese conductors who had won such laurel.
Besides the faithful and accurate performance of classic music, Yang Yang, as an excellent young conductor, has an acute master and a particular understanding for modern musical works, which make his interpretation for each new work, has an in-depth cogency. He has cooperated with Lin Zhaohua, a play director, and has initially and successfully performed on the Chinese music theatre such operas as The Banquet and A Madman's Diary of Guo Wenjing, a composer. In addition, he has also showed a remarkable talent in ballet music field and successfully cooperated with Central Ballet Group on such works as Nut Cracker, Fairy and Yellow River.
Violin Solo: Ning Feng In June 2003, Ning Feng became the first student ever in the nearly 200 years Academy histories to be given the full mark (100%) for his Final Recital (end of study exam) in the Royal Academy of Music. In May 2001, he finished 5th in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Belgium. And two month later, he won the First Prize in the London Oratory International Violin Competition.
In June 2005, Ning Feng won the 1st Prize at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand. In September 2006, Ning Feng won the 1st prize as well as two other special prizes at the prestigious 51st Paganini International Violin Competition in Genova, Italy, and he was invited to perform with the Paganini's own violin—the 1743 Guarneri del Gesù 'Cannone'.
In February 1999, after the master class given by late Lord Y. Menuhin, he was invited by the Maestro to perform in Germany. The late Maestro commented him as: "I was most impressed with his performance... And feel that he has real talent and musicianship to go very far."

More about the Program The Grand Canal Symphonic Suite It is written by the young Chinese composer Zhou Tian who was born in Hangzhou and lives in America. The symphonic suite entitled Grand Canal is written for application of the Grand Canal for world cultural heritage and is a gift for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the P.R.C. It is the first original symphonic music in Hangzhou and was first performed by Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra in October 2009. This composition presents the troubled past, peaceful present and prosperous future of the Grand Canal closely connected with the Chinese nation. |
