2008 World Folk Song Festival Regulations
 

Candidates for the 2008 World Folk Song Festival Screened

Dates: October 3rd to 8th, 2008

Location: Beijing, China

I. Purpose

The 2008 World Folk Song Festival is an event organized jointly by the Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the National Centre for the Performing Arts. The Festival will introduce Chinese audiences to some of the finest folk music and traditions from around the world.

It will also offer a context for cultural dialogue and exchange between the artists of many nations. The Festival will be composed of events such as concerts, opening and closing galas, forums, exhibitions etc. It will be a feast for folk music artists from around the world.

II. Programming

The Festival will feature folk musicians (individuals and groups) from all over the world with a program that will in particular showcase vocals and in some cases dance.

Note that all technical requirements should be submitted for consideration by the Organizing Committee. NCPA will provide production management, technicians and in-house equipment. Any additional equipment that may need to be brought in by the artists will be the responsibility of the artists.

III. Festival Activities

1. Opening and closing ceremonies.
2. Concert at NCPA
     Mixed concert: one full-length program featuring two or more groups/individuals.
     Solo concert: one full-length program to be presented by a group/individual. (To be programmed by
     NCPA.)
3. Additional concerts (as applicable). Note: 40-60 minutes in length
    Options are as follows:
    a). In NCPA public spaces/foyer.
    b). Open air concerts
    Historical sites, university campuses, public parks/spaces.

4. Exhibitions
    An exhibition showcasing folk music and traditions from around the world will be held in the Centre during
    the Festival. Any participating group or individual  is encouraged to bring traditional and local costumes,
    instruments and other related articles. Please indicate on the list of equipment/instruments etc to be
    brought by artists if you would like to contribute any items to this exhibition.

IV. Regulation

The official languages of the 2008 World Folk Song Festival are Chinese and English.

The Organizing Committee reserves all rights related to Festival promotional and publicity material including publications, audio and video recordings, broadcasting, photography and merchandising. This material will be used solely for promotional purposes within the context of the Festival.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to revise or extend this document.
