In the evening of January 16th, as one of the genius Austrian composer Mozart's tour de force, the opera Le Nozze di Figaro was staged again for the audience of Beijing. The Chinese cast led by famous singers Li Ao, Huang Ying, Zhou Zhengzhong and Yu Guanqun lived up to the expectations of the audience and brought an perfect performance of this Western opera classic familiar to the Chinese audience. As the first opera production staged in NCPA in 2014, this opera kicked off this year's NCPA opera performance.

Favoured by the younger audience, NCPA repertoire's opera classic starring winning singer of Domingo' Operalia

As NCPA's first Mozart opera production, Le Nozze di Figaro premiered last year was critically acclaimed by opera circle insiders like famous playwright Zou Jingzhi and renowned singer Tian Haojiang. In pursuit of perfection in art, the production's Spanish director José Luis Castro also came to give instructions on the revival.

The female protagonist Susanna was still sang by celebrated soprano Huang Ying and the male counterpart Figaro the winner of last year's Operalia in Verona bass-baritone Li Ao. The coloratura soprano hailed as the "nightingale from China" brought exquisite singing and lively stage performance while the catchy aria "Non piu andrai" by bass-baritone Li Ao who has been more and more recognized in the Western opera circle blew the audience away. Li Ao said after the show, "It's been my dream for a long time to sing on the stage of NCPA. Figaro is a great role in opera. Unlike the other roles for a bass-baritone, he is a 'heroic servant' dreamed of by all bass-baritones and I have realized mine tonight!" In addition, Chinese baritone living in Europe Zhou Zhengzhong (Count Almaviva), young sopranos Yu Guanqun (Countess Almaviva) and Xu Lei (Cherubino) all showed their strength. In a witty septet in the second act, Zhang Zhuo (Marcellina), Guan Zhijing (Bartolo) and Li Xiang (Basilio)'s excellent performance alongside the four leads completed an exciting picture of the belle canto power in China.
